Community Posting GNM Nursing

Community posting is a part of GNM nursing training where student nurses go into the community to learn about the health needs of individuals, families, and the community.

Main objectives:

* To understand the health problems of people in the community.

* To learn about health promotion and disease prevention.

* To conduct home visits and assess families.

* To learn basic community health nursing procedures.

* To provide health education on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, sanitation, immunization, and prevention of diseases.

* To observe and understand the functioning of sub-centres, health posts, and other community health services.

* To develop communication and interpersonal skills.

Activities during community posting

1. Home visit – assessing the health status and needs of a family.

2. Family health assessment – collecting information about family members, environment, nutrition, and sanitation.

3. Health education – explaining health-related topics to individuals or groups.

4. Environmental assessment – observing water supply, waste disposal, housing, drainage, and cleanliness.

5. Maternal and child health – learning about antenatal care, postnatal care, immunization, and child health.

6. Record keeping – maintaining community posting records and reports.

In short: Community posting helps a first-year GNM student understand how nursing care is provided outside the hospital, with emphasis on prevention, health promotion, family care, and community health.
