Program Overview

The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma course at DMJ Institute of Nursing Science (DMJIONS) prepares compassionate healthcare professionals capable of rendering essential nursing services across diverse medical environments. Approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Karnataka State Nursing Council (KSNC), this 3-year program combines foundational healthcare theory with intensive bedside clinical exposure.

Program Highlights

  • Stream Flexibility: Open to students from Science, Arts, or Commerce streams who have completed 10+2.
  • Hands-on Clinical Training: Rotations across partner hospitals including A.V. Hospital, Spandana Hospital, and Kidwai Institute of Oncology.

  • Pathway to Upgradation: Graduates can seamlessly enter the healthcare workforce as Staff Nurses or upgrade to a degree via Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.

Must have passed 10+2 / Higher Secondary / PUC examination in any stream (Science, Arts, or Commerce) from a recognized board with minimum 40% aggregate marks. Candidates must be medically fit and aged between 17 and 35 years as of December 31st of the admission year.

  • Minimum eligibility: 45.00%

  • Nepal: Candidates from Nepal must have passed Class 12 / NEB examination (in any stream) with at least 40% aggregate marks. Candidates require an Equivalence Certificate from the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) / TU, along with a valid Passport or Citizenship Certificate and Medical Fitness Certificate.

  • Bhutan: Candidates from Bhutan must have completed BHSEC (Class XII) in any stream with a minimum of 40% aggregate marks. Required documents include a valid Passport / Citizenship Identity Card, Equivalence Certificate from BCSEA, and a Medical Fitness Certificate.

The GNM curriculum is designed around a 3-year structured practical and theoretical framework following INC guidelines:

First Year

  • Bio-Sciences: Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology
  • Behavioral Sciences: Psychology, Sociology
  • Nursing Foundations: Fundamentals of Nursing, First Aid, Personal Hygiene
  • Community Health Nursing I: Environmental Hygiene, Health Education, Communication Skills, Nutrition
  • English & Computer Applications

Second Year

  • Medical-Surgical Nursing I & II (including Pharmacology)
  • Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing
  • Child Health Nursing (Pediatrics)

Third Year

  • Midwifery & Gynecological Nursing
  • Community Health Nursing II
  • Professional Trends & Adjustment, Healthcare Administration & Ward Management
  • Integrated Clinical Internship: Practical rotational postings in Medical, Surgical, ICU, Maternity, and Community Health units
